We wanted to welcome everyone to our Cursillo Blog. My husband, Jeff and I are both currently involved with the local Cursillo Movement here in South Bend, IN. If you've never heard of Cursillo let me tell you what it is not. It is not a bunch of holy rollers standing on soap boxes preaching; it is not a cult; and furthermore, it is not something that only people who are very involved in their churches attend...it is open to everyone.
I made my first Cursillo weekend in 1992. I had attended Catholic grade school and high school but by the time college rolled around I was done with it. Until my mom had a near brush with cancer. At that event, I decided I would help raise my families spirits and attend this retreat that they had been involved in for years. It changes my life and brought me to that personal relationship with Christ.
My husband on the other hand was a cradel Catholic who attended masses on Sunday and CCD but that was it. And he even had 2 Nuns on his mom's side of the family. When Jeff made his Cursillo, it was 9 years after we had met and nearly 15 years after I had made my first weekend.
How is Cursillo different from other retreats? Cursillo is much more than a retreat. Many people who attend have faced challenges in their life. Some people consider themselves spiritually alone. Cursillo helps you to recognize Christ's presence in your life and helps you to be more aware of the Christian community around you.
In this blog we plan on answering alot of the questions people may have about Cursillo. We also want to welcome Cursillo's from around the world and allow this to be a forum that other Cursillistas can communicate and leave messages. IF you are having a weekend coming up, we will gladly post it for prayers, etc. If you are traveling and want to locate a local Ultreya, this would also be the place. We will also more than happily link your local Cursillo to this site. Stick around and check this site often.
